Mike Cameron Tests Postive, Suspended for 25 games

Mike Cameron has tested positive for a banned substance (not yet known) and was suspended by Major League Baseball for 25 games.  Cameron is currently a free agent after his contract with the Padres came to an end.  He is yet to file free agency but says he will do so after the news comes out about his supsension.  "I didn't have to do this, but I wanted to be a man about it." Cameron remarked on XX Sports Radio in San Diego on Wednesday morning.

Aparently a banned substance was found in Cameron's last drug test of the year which would have made him ineligible for the playoffs had the Padres beaten the Rockies in the one game playoff.  The substance is still unknown, but he promises that it is not steroids.  "If it was steroids they would have suspended me for 50 games," he says.  I am not sure if that is true, but a convincing retort to those that will scream steroids.

Once signing a free agent deal, Cameron will be suspended from the first 25 games of the season, making his value much less.  This will probably take quite a hit on what I am sure he was hoping would be a good sized deal.
